WAVES Competition: Community Radio Content Challenge
We are delighted to invite your esteemed Community Radio Station (CRS) to participate in the WAVES Competition: Community Radio Content Challenge. This exciting competition aims to celebrate and showcase the creativity, innovation, and impact of community radio stations across India.
The WAVES Competition is designed to highlight the diverse talents and unique voices that community radio stations bring to the airwaves. We believe your station has produced outstanding programs that deserve recognition, and we encourage you to submit your most innovative and impactful content for this prestigious competition.
Objectives of the Competition
Celebrate Community Radio
Highlight the unique voices and stories that community radio stations bring to the airwaves.
Encourage Innovation
Inspire CRSs to experiment with new formats, genres, and storytelling techniques.
Foster Collaboration
Create opportunities for CRSs to share knowledge, learn from each other, and build connections.
Amplify Impact
Recognize and reward programs that make a real difference in their communities.
On any one of the following five category and CRS can submit their entries
Judges
Jury Composition: A panel of experts, including renowned media personalities and representatives from the Community Radio Association of India (CRAI), will evaluate the entries.
Shortlisting: There will be two levels of evaluation to select the top 5 entries will be shortlisted for the final round based on the evaluation criteria.
Final Selection: Winners will be selected from the shortlisted entries and awarded be shortlisted for the final round based on the evaluation criteria.
Registration Guidelines
General Eligibility Criteria
- Community Radio Stations can submit only one entry in any one of the five themes mentioned above. More than one entry by a station in the same or other category will not be accepted and application shall be considered summary rejected.
- The programme should not be produced or engaged by professionals or professional voices.
- Only programmes produced by applying Community Radio Stations will be accepted for awards.
- The programme should not have won any award by any institution or organisation.
- The programme should have been actually broadcast by the CRS between 01.06.2023 to 31.06.2024.
- Entries of programmes which are under-production or have not been broadcast between these dates will not be accepted.
- Entries must be accompanied with a brief (250 words summary in English/Hindi).
- Entries, along with all relevant documents and audio files of programme (in MP 3 format only), may be sent preferably via CRA Website CRA Website by 10th December 2024 by 05:30 P.M
- Entries received after due date shall not be accepted.
- Community Radio Stations (CRS): Open to All registered community radio stations in India approved by MIB and holding a valid license or Under Renewal are eligible to participate.
Submission Requirements
- Program Criteria: Each submission must be a half-hour program or a single episode from a series.
- Program Formats: Entries can include talk shows, documentaries, music programs, educational content, Live Shows, Phone in Program or any other genre.
- Supporting Materials:
- Program descriptions: Provide a brief overview of the program's content and objectives.
- Impact reports: Detail the program's reach and impact on the community.
- Listener testimonials: Include feedback and comments from listeners.
Submission Process
- Timeline: Entries must be submitted between the second week of September 2024 and November 2024.
- Submission Portal: Entries should be submitted through the official competition website. Ensure all materials are uploaded correctly.
- Format: Audio files should be in MP3 format. Supporting documents should be in PDF format only.
Parameters of Evaluation Criteria
To ensure fair and comprehensive evaluation of the submissions for the WAVES Competition, the following parameters will be used to assess each community radio program:
- Relevance and Impact
- Local Issues Addressed: How well the program identifies and addresses local issues, needs, or interests.
- Community Benefit: The tangible and intangible benefits the program has provided to the community.
- Listener Testimonials: Feedback and testimonials from listeners indicating the program's impact.
- Originality and Creativity
- Unique Concept: The uniqueness and originality of the program's concept and content.
- Innovative Format: The creativity in the program’s format, structure, and presentation style.
- Storytelling Techniques: Effective use of storytelling techniques to engage the audience.
- Production Quality
- Audio Quality: Clarity, volume consistency, and overall technical quality of the audio.
- Editing: Skillful editing to enhance the listening experience, including transitions, sound effects, and music.
- Professionalism: Overall professionalism in the production and presentation of the program.
- Community Engagement
- Participation: Degree of community participation and involvement in the program's creation and execution.
- Interaction: Engagement with listeners through interactive segments, call-ins, or social media.
- Feedback Mechanism: Availability and use of mechanisms to gather and respond to community feedback.
- Educational Value
- Informative Content: The educational content and its effectiveness in providing valuable information.
- Awareness Raising: Success in raising awareness about important issues or topics relevant to the community.
- Skill Development: Contribution to the development of skills or knowledge among listeners.
- Cultural Preservation
- Promotion of Local Culture: Efforts to preserve and promote local culture, traditions, and languages.
- Cultural Exchange: Programs that foster cultural exchange and understanding within the community.

- Long-term Impact: Potential for the program to have a lasting impact on the community.
- Sustainability: Ability of the program to continue and sustain its efforts over time.

- Advocacy Efforts: Programs that advocate for social change, human rights, or marginalized communities.
